Gussie passed away peacefully in Cochrane, Alberta on March 14, 2012. Beloved mother, grandmother and aunt, she will be sorely missed by many. We are thankful for her full and active life. Born in Rosenfeld, Manitoba, she came to Banff after marrying Ben Wiebe in 1941. They lived in Banff for 33 years where they raised their family Bob, Arlene, Gordon and David. Gussie was an active member in the Presbyterian Church, IODE, Eastern Star, Banff Curling Club, Bridge Club and was an amazing cook and gardener. Ben and Gussie built a 4 plex in Banff which she ran for years. After the family was gone , Ben and Gussie were free to travel. They sold their cottage near Invermere, B.C., bought a travel trailer and went off to Yuma, with trips into Mexico, Florida, Costa Rica and across Canada. Summers were spent in White Rock and then Langley, B.C. with winters in Arizona. Gussie’s favourite charity was World Vision. Gussie is survived by her daughter Arlene (Pierce) Butler and son David (Jean) Wiebe as well as her grandchildren Robin Lori, Michael, Richard, Michelle (Matt) Williams, Tom (Jen) and Adam Wiebe as well as her beloved nieces and nephews, daughter-in-laws Linda nee Sinclair and Marilyn nee Fyfe and several sister-in-laws and brother-in-law. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Ben in 1998, son Gordon in 1980, son Bob in 1998 and grandson Daniel Todd Ackland in 2006. No flowers by request, donations can be made to your favourite charity. A celebration of Gussie’s life will be held at a later date.
