October 26, 1922 – January 28, 2012

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gordon on January 28, 2012. He passed away peacefully with his family by his side at the Bethany Care Centre – Cochrane. He will be sadly missed by his wife, Violet (Dolly), of 65 years and his four children – Rochelle, David (Giesele), Elizabeth and Bill (Lorna), fourteen grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, sister Jean and brother Clarence (Louvine). Gordon was predeceased by his parents, Harold and Amy Callaway and one sister, Mary Fenton. Gordon was born in Cochrane AB and spent his life here except for his time of service in the Canadian Armed Forces. He also worked in Calgary for a few years as a radio technician and electrician, and it was there he met the love of his life, Dolly. They returned to the farm north of Cochrane in 1948 where they farmed and ran their dairy for many years. He also enjoyed his years as a school bus driver. Gordon and Dolly loved to camp and travel and their favourite destinations were Osoyoos and Hawaii. They retired into Cochrane in 1997 on their fiftieth wedding anniversary. Gordon was an active community volunteer enjoying being a leader of the Bearspaw Dairy 4-H Club, a lifetime member of St. Andrew’s United Church and a proud member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #15. He will be remembered as a man whose gentle spirit and kind and honourable ways touched all he met. The family wishes to thank Dr. D. Fundytus and Home Care and Bethany staff for their kindness and caring. A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 4 at 2 p.m. at St. Andrew’s United Church, Cochrane. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made in Gordon’s name to St. Andrew’s United Church at 128 – 1st St. E, Cochrane AB T4C 1Z3 (403-932-2585).
