February 11, 1930 – January 13, 2012

Cameron Delmar Calvert was born in Lakehurst, Ontario on February 11, 1930. Cam came West as a young man at the age of 17 in 1947, where he met his love of his life, Ruth Katherine Wethal, who predeceased him on December 14, 2001. He was predeceased by all his brothers and sisters, as well as his son, Donald Cameron on April 25, 1985. He is survived by his four daughters, Coreen Calvert, Debbie Aadland (Dennis), Wendy Parker (Dennis), Susan Calvert (Ron), and two sons, Derrick (Patti) and Tyler (Melanie), as well as 19 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Cam leaves behind a very special friend, Bonnie Baynes.

Cam met Ruth in Saskatchewan, where they had their first child Coreen. He had several jobs within the oil industry where he met many of his life long friends, eventually settling in Calgary, first living in Forest Lawn, then Bowness, and finally in Springbank. While working in Calgary he was part of the Glenmore Reservoir roadway system, delivering gravel to the dam area. He then decided to head back into the Oil Industry where he went on the road selling drilling bits to seismic crews, until he retired. Cam and Ruth loved travelling and owned many different types of recreational vehicles. His love of horses brought him to belong to Calgary Western Riders, as well as the Steele Scouts. Within the Steele Scouts, he started out as a Trooper, working his way through the ranks, ending up as Regimental Sergeant Major and a lifetime member. Cam was also predeceased by his equine friend, Buck.

Even while Cam was not feeling well, he always managed to maintain a sense of humor, and it was tough beating him at Scrabble, and he loved to beat Bonnie (and whoever else) at cards. He will be sadly missed by family and the many friends he made while navigating around this country.

A celebration of Cam’s life will be held at Springbank United Church on Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at 1100 hours, with the reception at the Springbank Heritage Club.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in Cam’s memory may be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation, as well as Springbank Heritage Club. To order memorial trees or send flowers to the family in memory of Cameron Delmar Calvert, please visit our flower store.
