Dave was born in Spirit River, Alberta, where he attended school until the end of grade 11. He enjoyed school and athletics, especially hockey. When he was 15, he played senior mens' hockey for Fairview Elks and when he was 16, he played for the Hythe Mustangs. He also played alongside his brother Lawrence with the Central Peace Totems Junior B hockey team.
Dave went to Red Deer for his grade 12 while playing hockey for the Red Deer Rustlers, in the WHL. The team went on to win the Centennial Cup Tier 2 Hockey Championships in PEI. Dave was then traded to the Vancouver Nats, while taking more schooling. He continued his education in Vancouver and he obtained a teaching degree. He learned that teaching wasn't his type of career so he learned to become an accomplished stone mason. He made gorgeous rock fireplaces and fences from cut rock and river rock. He also did a lot of garden art with rock.
Dave moved to Bragg Creek, Alta, where he lived and worked for most of his life. He bought a beautiful home and enjoyed country living and working with rocks and stone.
While in Vancouver, Dave met and married Sharon, an airline hostess for CP Air. That enabled him to do some travelling, including the meeting of sister Faye in Australia to snorkel the Great Barrier Reef together. After that marriage ended, Dave went to Japan to teach English for a few years.
Dave enjoyed playing rec hockey (his friends called him Drukes), cycling, golfing and visiting family and friends. After he retired, Dave continued to do odd jobs with stonework, in the Shuswap and Bragg Creek areas. In fact, he was working on a job site the day he passed away.
Dave is survived by his brother Lawrence Andruchiw (Lori), sister Alice Faye McKinnon (Jerry Kelm), brother George Andruchiw (Veronica), nephew Jason Andruchiw and family, nieces Tracy Bzowy and Janine Green and families.
Dave was predeceased by his father Walter Andruchiw, his mother Olga Korol (nee Konopelka), step-father Nick Korol, aunties Irene Konopelka-Milkovich and Jean Zatelny (nee Konopelka), uncles Alex, Nick and Bill Konopelka, uncle Harry and auntie Verna Andruchiw, and cousins Charlie Andruchiw and Shelly Mrkonjic (nee Skawronski).
There will not be a funeral but a Celebration of Dave's life is being planned for sometime in October, in Bragg Creek.
Donations may be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada (PO Box 460 Stn. K, Toronto, Ontario. M4P 9Z9) or a charity of your choice.
Gone but not forgotten. Dave will be missed by his family and friends. Rest in peace, Dave!
