Linda Mary Jane Hoomana

November 9, 1946 — November 9, 2022

1946 – 2022

Leaving many heavy hearts, Linda passed away at Carewest Sarcee in Calgary. She will be dearly missed by her beloved daughter, Tanya Hoomana. Linda was the fourth child born to Thomas and Margaret Beattie, she grew up and was educated in Cochrane, Alberta. Athletic in her youth, Linda loved being outdoors and was a lifeguard at the Cochrane pool during her high school years. After graduation she led an adventurous life, following completion of the Registered Nursing Aid designation her career spanned hospitals across Alberta, British Columbia and trips to Hawaii as a private patient caregiver/companion.

Throughout her life Linda was a devoted mother to Tanya exhibiting kindness and jolly collaboration entertaining family and friends. With a beverage in hand you could depend on Linda to sit down for a chat. Never afraid of hard work, Linda frequently assisted family and friends with gardening and many other projects. She was a member of the Cochrane Legion and volunteered both there and at the Olds Legion. She traveled to places near and far with Tanya – Aruba, Las Vegas, the Maritimes where they hiked the Cabot Trail. Later in life, Linda endured lung cancer treatment with tenacity and positivity. Linda will be kept close in many hearts. Mostly by her daughter, Tanya, and her siblings: Marion Fenton (Bill Bachynski); David Beattie (Ann), Bob Beattie (Carmen) and Timothy Beattie. Linda was the “fun” aunt to Karen Anhorn, Tom Fenton, Laurie O’Shaunghnessy, Teresa Hurshman (Rick; Tyler); Bill Johnson (Lisa Bouchard; Tyson and Jennifer); Malcolm Beattie (Benjamin) and Sean Beattie (Megan; Amelia and Fiona). Her extended family includes: Jim Scott; Shayelyn, Briley, Tayanah and Haydyn Scott. Linda made a host of good friends who supported her in Cochrane and Didsbury, as well as in many other communities.

Linda was predeceased by her parents, her dear sister, Gloria Johnson (March 2022), her niece, Deborah Scott, brother-in-law, Fred Johnson and niece, Kim Johnson. Tanya and family extend warm thanks to Carewest Sarcee’s management and staff for the care Linda received over the last few months.

A Celebration of Lie will be held at Cochrane Country Funeral Home, Thursday December 1, 2022 at 3:00pm.

Flowers are gratefully declined. On her passing, Linda chose to honour Margaret Beattie’s 38 years as a volunteer at the Nan Boothby Memorial Library. The family would appreciate memorial donations to the Cochrane Public Library, 405 Railway Street West Cochrane, AB T4C 2E2 Tel: 403 932 4353.
