August 21, 1921 – January 11, 2012
We are sad to announce that Sid passed away on January 11th 2012 at the Peter Lougheed Hospital in Calgary. Sid was the first of four children born to Arthur Norris and Susie Finn Norris. He grew up on the family farm in the Glendale district and lived and farmed in that area all of his life. He joined the armed forces in 1941 and served his country in the UK, Italy, North Africa and the Netherlands returning home in 1945. After the war he purchased a farm of his own and built a Holstein dairy herd. He married Rose Holmgren from Red Deer AB in 1959. Sid is survived by his three children Marjorie, Susan (Bruce Hewitt) and Art (Molly Shier) and by his favourite grandson Kieran Shier-Norris. He is also survived by his youngest brother Bob (Mavis) and sister-in- law Mildred Holmgren as well by as well as by his 12 nieces and nephews and their families, and a large clan of cousins, and their families. Sid is now reunited with his beloved Rose who passed away in 1987. He was also predeceased by his nephew Tommy Buckler, sister-in-law Margaret Holmgren Beck, brother–in-law Earl Beck, brother-in-law Philip Holmgren, sister Ellen Norris Buckler, brother-in-law Henry Buckler, and his brother Phil Norris. Sid will be deeply missed by the family he loved so well. Thanks and love to the Big Hill Lodge family in Cochrane. In the last three and a half months of his life Sid received wonderful care at the Foothills Hospital, the Fanning Centre transitional care unit and Centrepoint 3rd floor at the Bethany Care Centre. “I don’t know why they are so kind to me” he said repeatedly in the past three and a half years. We also thank the angels of unit 51 at the Peter Lougheed for their gentle care during his last few days.

Interment Service: Tuesday January 17th , meet at 10:00 AM at Cochrane Country Funeral Home.
Memorial Service Tuesday January 17th 2:00 PM at Rockpointe Church, 255024 Lochend Road, SE corner of Lochend Road and 1A Highway.
