November 1, 1937 — July 16, 2023

November 01, 1937 – July 16, 2023

Shirley was born in Red Deer, AB on November 01,1937, to Velma and Chet Baldwin. Shirley’s family lived in a sod shack at Kew, AB, then moved to the Soapy Smith, and then on to Rick’s haunted house.

In 1945 Shirley’s family moved up to the Horse Creek community where they purchased a ranch across the road from the old school. Her parents turned the old school barn into living quarters where they lived for many years. It was during that time that she attended the new Westbrook school to finish her education.

In 1960 Shirley went to work for The Royal Bank in Cochrane until she married. She had two children Sandra and Michael.

Shirley loved to be involved and was the President of the Lioness and enjoyed the many trips to other cities for the different Lion’s events. She was also the President of The Bow Croft Place and also joined The Legion in 1980.

During her life Shirley continued to learn and took courses in Accounting, Business Management, Ground Maintenance, Property Management, Bar Tending, Sewing and French. In 1980 she went to work with the Government of Alberta that led her to work in many communities like Scott Lake, Sundre, Cremona, Carstairs, and finally Cochrane.

Shirley was a legion member since 1980 and helped at their functions, as well as ran the Thursday and Saturday day night crib games for a few years. Shirley loved to play cards, and could be found at the Legion playing poker, but most of all she loved playing poker at Dave’s.

Shirley was predeceased by her Parents, Velma and Chet. She leaves behind a daughter Sandra (John), a son Michael, brothers Don, Barry (Sharon), son-in-law, Darren Messer, grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
