Shirley Joan Gilbert

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Shirley Joan Gilbert, on January 16, 2024.  

Shirley was born in Craigmyle, Alberta on February 21, 1934.  She married Sid in 1951 and together they raised 7 children.  

Shirley loved spending time with her family, her house was always the hub where everyone gathered.  Everybody knew if they dropped by at lunchtime the soup would be on!  She lived a full and happy life surrounded by her family.  She enjoyed crafting and painting, spending time at Trout Lake, and in Arizona with her many friends. 

She was predeceased by her beloved husband Sid, oldest son Jim, and her brothers Bob, Gordon, Bill, Bud and Charlie.

She will always be loved and cherished by her children, Loretta (Les), Jack (Anne), Roger (Velma), Steven (Georgina), Scott (Chris), Joan (Dave) and Gerry, her 17 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren, as well as her sister Olive and brother Keith and many nieces and nephews.

We would like to thank everyone for their care and support, especially Carol, who was mom’s friend and companion, to Bethany Calgary, with special thanks to Mesi and Chris.

We will be having a celebration of Shirley’s life in the spring with further details to follow.  In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Alzheimer’s Society or the Canadian Cancer Society.
