Wendy Lynne Vial (née Sorby), age 52, passed away on Saturday, May 6th 2023 surrounded by her loving family and beloved children after a 16 month battle with pancreatic cancer. Predeceased by her father Williard Lawrence Sorby, her step-father Maurice Simonin and grandmother Evelyn Hartwick Schneidmiller, she is survived by her mother Cheryl, siblings Lori and Robb; children Shae, Colton and Cassie; granddaughter Jane; uncle Reginald, and cousin Corinne.
Born in Calgary, AB in 1970 to parents Cheryl and Larry, Wendy was raised alongside her siblings in the city she loved.
Wendy was known in life for being a loving daughter, sister, friend, and mother of three children. As a devoted mother Wendy was immensely proud of her children and dedicated significant time and effort to supporting her family in sports, education, and life events. Wendy was known for having a light heart and contagious positivity with a unique ability to make light of any situation. Her resilience showed an unshakeable strength of character when facing adversity. Wendy was a hard worker who provided for her family even in the worst of circumstances and was a genuine inspiration to many.
Wendy had recently received her realtor license before her passing and was able to sell her first house following her diagnosis. Wendy loved traveling, visiting the ocean, and observing sea life while scuba diving. She was a very creative artist, loved flowers and saw beauty in nature. She deeply valued spending time with her friends and family who all loved her immensely. She was a true free spirit who refrained from casting judgment upon others and always lent a helping hand where she could. One of the most favored characteristics noted by the people who knew Wendy was the ability to pack a bag and head to the mountains or depart on a spontaneous vacation, a rare understanding of the concept to seize the day.
During her battle with cancer she reminded kindly not to take the simple things in life for granted, freedom of movement without pain or the ability to consume food without discomfort, and to always appreciate the quality time people are fortunate enough to spend with their loved ones.
Wendy will forever be loved by those who were lucky enough to know her and will be truly missed.
A funeral service to remember Wendy will be scheduled at St. Albert the Great Parish in McKenzie Towne (
10 Prestwick Dr SE, Calgary, AB
) on Thursday May 18,2023 at 10:30am. Following the service a private interment will be held.
